Bequests and Donations The green legal text on this page was last modified: 27th August 2007 Donations We would be most grateful for any donations that you might wish to make to the Foundation to help us establish ourselves in the field of medieval genealogical research. All money donated is put towards extending our research and our resources. All officers of the FMG are unpaid volunteers. You can make a donation online very easily through our secure online payment facility by clicking the button below:
We are also happy to receive donations of materials such as books, journals, databases, CDs, private papers, etc. If you wish to do this please contact us at info@fmg.ac. It is only through the support of Users and Members that the Foundation can grow into a world class resource of medieval genealogical data. Bequests Should anyone wish to make a bequest in their will of money or genealogical resources (such as books, journals, databases, CDs, private papers, etc.) to the Foundation then we will be happy to receive them. To make life easier we give two suggested clauses below to put in your will to cover money and genealogical resources. Just fill in the blank in the first clause with the value of the donation (if bequeathing money). The Foundation for Medieval Genealogy can in no way be held responsible for the accuracy and legal validity of these clauses, and a lawyer should always be consulted when altering or writing a will. These clauses were written with English law in mind, and different laws may apply in other countries. To make a bequest of money the following clause is suggested: I give to the Foundation for Medieval Genealogy of Oak House Vowchurch Hereford HR2 0RB England (an official Charity registered in England and Wales, number 1090387) absolutely and free of all taxes and duties payable by reason of my death the sum of To make a bequest of genealogical resources (such as books, journals, databases, CDs, private papers, etc.) the following clause is suggested: I give to the Foundation for Medieval Genealogy of Oak House Vowchurch Hereford HR2 0RB England (an official Charity registered in England and Wales, number 1090387) absolutely and free of all taxes and duties payable by reason of my death all my genealogical prosopographical heraldic and related papers books journals and other like records including any that may be in electronic or digital form together with all my intellectual property and rights therein and the copyright in all my genealogical writings and the right for the said Foundation (either itself or in association with any other body or person) to record or reproduce the material in any form whatsoever whether for archival or commercial purposes and with full power to transfer all or any thereof to other libraries or repositories or sell any which are in the unfettered opinion of the said Foundation already represented in its collections or otherwise unsuitable for retention by the said Foundation the proceeds of any such sale being used solely to further the objects of the said Foundation and I further declare that if the said Foundation has changed its name or amalgamated with or transferred its assets to any other body then my Executors shall give effect to the gift as if it had been made (in the first case) to the body in its changed name or (in the second case) to the body which results from such amalgamation or to which the transfer has been made Always seek legal advice when altering or writing a will! As will be seen from these clauses no costs shall be incurred by the FMG. We are prepared to be flexible in exceptional circumstances such as paying for transport of a substantial and particularly important and relevant archive to the Foundation's library, but this must be ratified by the Executive Committee of the Foundation in advance, who will require proof of the worth of the collection in furthering the Foundation's objects. Written permission from the Executive Committee must be obtained before putting any clause modified in such a way in your will. The Executive Committee may well refuse a bequest that will cost the Foundation money without such permission. We highly recommend that you notify us if you are intending to make a bequest to us, simply so that we can make the passage of your bequest easier for your executors when the time comes. We would store what details you wish to give us on a stand-alone database under the protection of the Data Protection Act (1998). None of your details from such a database will be divulged to anyone outside the Executive Committee of the Foundation. |
