Abstract by T S M Mommaerts-Browne - 01 Jul 2005
The article traces the origins and peregrinations of fate of several Anglo-Saxon noble lineages. Some families were branches of the Gewissæ, (the royal house of Wessex); while others were continuations of other royal families, sovereign, prior to the unification of Egbert, Æthelwulf, and sons. It is a study in the comparative vicissitudes of the various dynasties of the 'heptarchy'. The study links more lines to the earlier dynasties, some of which hitherto lacked descents beyond their losses of sovereignty.
