Walter was a Norman officer of arms, and was appointed Ireland King of Arms by Edward IV in 1467. His last recorded official function was Edward IV's funeral in April 1483. He died 3 May 1487. Although the most senior king of arms, he appears to have been fifth in the order of precedence, after Garter, Clarenceux, Norroy and March. His connection with Ireland was titular rather than practical. The article recounts events in Bellengier's life from the public records, including his role in the invasion of France in 1475,
