Abstract by FMG - 09 Apr 2004
An account and analysis of the registers of people claiming sanctuary in Durham Cathedral (1464-1524) and Beverley Minster (1478-1539) as published (mainly in Latin) in 1837 by the Surtees Society. They provide information about the fugitives and their places of origin, weapons used for homicide, trades or occupations of the fugitives. The Durham register is more detailed. The article summarises the procedures followed, and describes some of the entries.
